With my Mom in town, we decided to take a trip to another Island and chose Kauai. There are military beach cabins there, so rent was cheap! William decided that he did not want to go because a guy on Maui told him that Kauai was a chicken Island. We later found out that there are plenty of chickens and roosters running wild over there. We have never seen anything like it. Of course there is way more to the Garden Island than just chickens. Here's the story about our first day.
What an early start. Our flight left at 6:30 am so we had to get to the airport around 5:30 am, thank goodness we live near the airport. Well, we flew Go! airlines. No one showed up at the ticket counter til 6am. Glad we didn't get there too early. So we were on the ground and driving around before 8 am. We stopped for breakfast and we were on our way to adventure. We decided to drive around to go find waterfalls and see what else we could find on the North side of the island. We were staying on the south west side of the island. Our check in time was at 2pm, so we had plenty of time to drive around. After breakfast we drove for about 5 min to our first water fall called Wailua Falls. This water fall was the background for Fantasy Island! Our next trip was over to Opaeka Falls. This water fall and the valley across the street from it were seen in Jurassic Park! It was so beautiful. Our pictures do not do it justice. Back in the car we drove to shopping centers and other little places. Our next scenic stop was at the Kilauea Light house. Which also has a bird sanctuary around it. The area was just beautiful. After that we decided to head back south to our cabin. It took us about an hour and a half to get there. On the island of Kauai there is only one main highway that will get you from the North to the South or West side of the Island, no short cuts. It was a beautiful drive! I do have to say that we were excited to get to the cabin. BEACH time, or so we thought. I checked us in at the cabin only to be told that the beach out front of the cabin was closed for the next couple of days because of a military exercise going on offshore from where we were staying. (RIMPAC) YUCK! Hey but at least we got a beach front cabin! We were actually tired anyway, we went to dinner, then went back to the cabin to watch a movie and jump into bed!
